There are 4 institutions that represent a soft tyranny namely the Monarchy, the Lords, the BBC and the Church of England and Britain will not have properly arrived in the 21st century until these archaisms and moribund structures are abolished.
Power has a way of disguising its true nature in order to preserve its tyrannical purchase. In the House of Lords which is a defacto gerontocracy -rule by the decrepid - its outward appearance is one of benign gentlefolk ruminating in their senescence on house of commons business, belying its true nature as a redoubt for unelected octogenarians holding illiberal sway over democracy.
The Monarchy has cleverly contrived to humanise its true nature using the disgustingly craven and fawning docile media to propagandize its cause with brilliant effect disguising its tyrannical nature with images of new born babies and faux domesticity.
The Church Of England continued existence makes it much harder to challenge the existential threat of political Islam when England itself has staggeringly enough not yet effected a separation of Church and State further enabling those who still have not got over the Reformation from averring that Britain is a nominally Christian country even though the the statistics of dwindling church goers totally belies the assertion.
The BBC prides itself on its putative public service but it is one that is delivered at the point of a gun as those who refuse to support it through the state imposed licence - a tax by any other name - end up in jail.
When these 4 Pillars of Soft Tyranny are toppled we can start to address the remaining institutional excrescences that stand between this nation and the bright sunny uplands of liberty
