Observation Excercise in Inanition

Roy Masters cultist urges his followers to observe not analyse. This is a call to an excercise of mind emptying, reducing the mind to its pre adult infantile tabula rasa state, a rudimentary perceptual level of conciousness. This is a state of craven inanition and it is what Masters requires of his mind snatched followers.

The very thing that separates man from his animal ancestors namely his conceptual conciousness is the very thing Masters seeks to obliterate and anhiliate with his call to an observational state of conciouness. To merely perceive floating perceptual images is what an infant does and it only become an adult by learning to acquire a conceptual awareness via concept formation. This requires mental effort, the application of thought,it is the very opposite of passive observation of objects and things which is the level of a mental retard.

Reduced to an animal awareness through observation Masters is ironically correct when he says man is a fallen animal but the reason he has fallen is because with Master's guidance he has abandoned his mind and substituted blank watching for the  process of cognition.

No, but you mustn't exert any mental effort, you fool!! Everything you do must be effortless, otherwise you're an ambitious power-mongering psychopath with delusions of godhood.

This is essentially the modus operandi Roy Masters uses to weaken the people who follow him. He makes them passive, and in some cases passive-aggressive because the sensible part of their consciousness is rebelling against the imposition of an implanted false identity that Roy injected through his malignant meditation. When you steal a person's initiative for the sake of becoming "enlightened" or "seeking truth"...you rob them of their ability to make critical choices for their life....another strength-depleting method Roy favors. It works very well. Roy is good at mentally disabling people who come to him for help because he forbids them to make any decisions for their life....just watch and wait for inspiration to tell them what to do. Roy's entire philosophy and methods are reprehensible!!

Great points.I had forgotten about his anti effort teaching. Yet another foolish counsel. Just when I thought I had covered all bases lol. He is a botomless pit of foolish instruction.

If RM were advocating what you describe, I might agree. I interpret the meditation instructions very differently, i.e., to employ a scientific discipline of observation to the mind. That is time-honored introspection. I'm enjoying Kihlstrom's free course webpages, e.g., Farthing's text on consciousness. Like Weitzenhoffer, Farthing notes the importance of precise definitions to describe theories, e.g., of consciousness, and both definitions and theories remain unsettled. Employing a basic principle of legal construction, we should consider that "consciousness" can be distinguished from "thoughts", or using two different words would be surplusage. Farthing describes theories of mind in which parallel rudimentary processing, i.e., thoughts, are distinct from an observational supervising function of consciousness. Farthing describes thoughts as the contents of consciousness.

I've recently addressed some of the misconceptions you seem to share with Linda on her Youtube channel. She referred me to this blog. Apart from that, I've never noticed my mind emptied by the observation exercise that RM describes. I don't doubt that's possible, as RM has explicitly warned against that very misuse. I disagree that conceptual formation or cognition requires effort. I routinely observe and enjoy conceptual formations and cognition absent effort. As I draft this comment, my consciousness is expending, at most, attentional effort to accurately select words that express my experience and affect. The words come from autonomous subordinate processes, doubtless learned and reduced to little more than non-conscious reflexes, albeit sufficiently imperfect that I value the spelling checker of my text editor. I doubt that I even have the ability to expend attentional effort, as this might result from an introspective illusion that Farthing describes in chapter 7.

RM has described an effortless, observational process of learning and living. This is inconceivable to those who prefer a model that accords them greater credit for faculties they scarcely understand, much less command or control. There seems to be little doubt that most brain processing is autonomous and non-conscious. The essence of consciousness is scarcely more than attentional focus of pathetic capacity relative to the non-conscious brain services. That's why the best use of consciousness is to watch what the rest of the brain presents for attention, and arguably, we're less in charge of that than responding to prompting from non-conscious subsystems. The only thing I know that can disable higher brain functions of human brain reasoning, other than physical disability, is a conscious preference for lower brain functions of animal emotions.
