Hypochondria seems to be on the increase and could the NHS have anything to do with this as people have unlimited access to their doctors and can avail them of all their imaginary illnesses without paying what the market would normally stand - that is to say neurotic hypondriachs would under a private insurance system have to pay a higher premium,as would smokers,drinkers,drug addicts,and obese junk food addicts. The root of hypocondria and neurosis is surely our old suspect below alluded to: Self Pity.We live in a narcissistic,sollipsistic,self referential culture,encouraged to feel sorry for ourselves,fixating on our symptoms without exploring their psychosomatic root. No doctor is going to tell his patient that he or she is a neurotic self pitying excuse for a human being are they?They would be struck off and lose their profession.Hence a very unheathy collusion between patient and doctor has arisen, a conspiracy of evasion and silence and a catastrophic legal drug culture where people are addicted to medication that is treating the symptoms and ignoring the causes.

We are told today that our prisons are full and they will have to release felons earlier with electronic tags.Don't buy it.There is a simple sollution.Prisons are way to expensive to run because of all the luxuries that are lavished on the inmates.Take all them away and have a no thrills prison eviron and costs could be slashed by 70% and the money could be used to build more prisons.Simple. No TVs,no junk food,tea and coffee,carpets,etc etc.Problem solved. The problem of recidivism that has also been cited today would be eliminated with longer sentences.They keep on letting them out to re-offend! We have a revolving door policy which is insane. Capitol punishment for murder would also reduce the prison population as would the harsher regime which would act as a disencentive.Right now jail is a holiday camp and they are lining up to get in although it is very hard to end up in jail as the judiciary bend over backwards to let criminals off the hook.

Can The Muddle East Embrace Democracy

Looking at Iraq it makes you wonder if Democracy can be imported artificially.It took us a thousand years to get it right -or at least functioning fairly well. Northern Ireland Anti Loyalist Bias

Whilst not condoning the present loyalist riots in Northern Ireland I cannot help but notice the double standards the government and media operate under when condeming it. James Whale on Talk Sport Radio allowed endless callers to attack loyalist and Orangemen but when someone came on to defend the loyalists he cut him off and wouldn't allow him to speak.Whilst being a crude example of bias this is by no means an isolated example of it. Excellent TV prog I just got round to seeing on the origins of the present Middle East problems -and on ch 4 too!

It outlined the provenance of strife in the region by the Arabs alignment with totlitarianism -going back 80 years, with Hitler's Nazis,then the Soviet Union and it went on to explain that it was only after the Arabs cosied up to the Soviets that the US started supporting Israel.

It was heartening to hear arab commentators noting that by and large the arabs are the authors of their own misfortune and they need to get their act together and stop blaming others for their own failings.

Shut Down The Hate Factories?
