The once noble practice of Minute's Silence has been hijacked and co opted into an excercise in PC gesture ism which re 7/7 today has frankly undertones of rank appeasement. There is something distasteful and spineless about today's events which is not easy to exactly put a finger on -but it smells.
Re WW1 and 2 the acts of commeroration at the cenotaph are noble. But we are a different people now and the laying of flowers, minute's silence etc have become a substitute for action,( perhaps post Diana?) now it seems it is more about gestures of maudlin lachyrmose, touchy feely, feel goodism rather than a doughty standing up against the evil in our midst and defying it.Denial permeates the whole issue of Islam in the UK. Instead we allowed the protestors against the mohumud cartoons to outrage decency with their threatening banners and did nothing.
To hell with a minute's silence. It is time to roar with outrage -and act.

I think I largely agree with you. A better time for a minutes silence might be the twenty fifth anniversary of the final Islamic terrorist attack. (The will have been the attack which made the West get up off its knees and take steps to ensure no more attacks were possible.)
I could not help noticing the media concentration on the 'Islamic angle'.
Yes.
The True Victims were all Moslem, of course.
And we are all guilty of driving them to it.
