John Gray who appears on Radio 4 Point of View is typical of the Left wing intellectual establishment in his use of low dishonesty in public discourse by deploying the technique of subliminal insinuation to smuggle across his views rather than direct explicit exposition. He was at it again last night in a rambling piece ostensibly about the enduring appeal of the fictional character Sherlock Holmes but this was a mere pretext to launch an assault on reason and to denigrate its role in civlizational progress.
To mount his argument agasinst reason he bizarely cited Communism and Capitalism and their respective failure re Soviet Union and the present banking crisis to support his case that reason has fallen down on the job of directing man to the bright sunny uplands of progress.Bizarre because the idea that Communism was based on reason is absurd.Lenin railed against reason at every opportunity referring to 'miserable reason' in his contempt and excoriation of it.Hitler too the other Socialist based his philosophy on blood lines, irrationalism and mysticism.
Then we come to Capitalism which has allegedly failed according to Gray but if we examine our present pass what emerges is the failure of government in bailing out the banks thus making it doubly likey that they will not learn their lesson and will comitt similar follies again figuring that they can play it deuces wild with their reserves and the tax payer will bail them out again. The whole point about Capitalism is that if it screws up it pays the price and suffers the consequence of failure, not that the State steps in and gives it corporate welfare and a bailout.
I do not know the name of the philosophy the likes of Gray peddals,it could be called skepticism for all I know but it involves the argument that reason cannot soley guide a man's actions because it is inadequate. What I do know however is the implication of it,namely that we rely on some non rational entity,be it faith,or intuition,or hunch which can only lead in one direction -back to the Middle Ages, where reason was unknown and gargoyles and mystical beings ruled man's actions with all the horrific consequences that flowed from that abandonment of the mind.
I have no problem with the likes of Will Self and John Gray appearing on Points of view.It would just be nice if the BBC would invite on intellectuals from across the aisle so that the other side of things can be aired.

Pussy Gaol-Or Not
I don't hold any brief for Putin who appears to have dragged Russia back to its old Soviet ways in some respects but on the issue of public protest I think he has got it right. Many people in the West make the common mistake of conflating freedom of speech with the right to express it any place they choose be it a church or so- called public space, the latter of course being any oxymoron of which more later.Your right to express your views does not give you licence to come on to my property uninvited and express them there. So it is with the girl punk group Pussy Riot who made their protest in a church violating its laws and rules in a crude egregious and inapropriate way.The sentence they got was of course draconian and no doubt politically motivated but the fact remains they had no right to stage their protest where they did.
Here we get to the crux of the matter (pardon the pun) for it is on the issue of'public spaces' and the inherent ambiguity of the concept that so much mischief is made for the conflict of interests it throws up is insoluble because all the while it occupies this indeterminate status of no man's land the public space becomes a battleground for contending protest groups whose conflicting demands cannot be resolved.
This dilemna can only be resolved by two means, namely the Putin way of banning political protest in public across the board or privatising all public space leaving it for the owners of the land to determine who can and cannot protest on it which of course is the resolution I favour. All the while we have public space the right solution is to ban all protests there.

School For Failures
Like so many kids I hated school and it was a complete mystery to me what it was for and what I was doing there. All the teachers appeared to be speaking in a foreign language and what was going on outside the window always seemed more interesting than what was going on in the classroom even if it was just passing traffic on the main road.It was a catholic secondary modern but even so the lessons were over my head, modern maths being a particularly arcane mystery to me.So I left school feeling somewhat cheated and drifted in and out of dead end jobs and to this day have never had a trade or career and have had to resort to living by my wits to some extent.
Of course each individual has to find their own way through life but the schools do not help or facilitate here and if anything can be a road block to progress by screwing with children's minds and crippling potential by uninspired lessons and an incoherent disparate curicula that can stunt growth and impair and arrest cognitive development
It was only due to the fact that I discovered books at about 14 that I was able to glimpse a new world of ideas and literature that would enable me to have something approaching an intellectual inner life. One day my mother told father to take me to the library when she discovered I had never actually read a book.It may in retrospect have been a fatal error as I was later to be accused of forever having my nose in a book and not doing anything practical but anyway at the time I was not relishing the prospect of having to read a book.I grabbed at random a few titles, one a huge coffee table book of the Monkees which had mostly photos in it and little text but I did include a proper book as well and later that day idly opened it and soon became engrossed in the story of a junior James Bond type adventure involving a geek who would climb out of his bedroom window at night and solve crime and then go back to his geeky persona come morning.I was hooked,I wanted more of this stuff.
A world to escape into, adventure excitement.Ghost stories, horror, stories, crime,I seemed to go from genre to genre, exhausting one then discovering another with whole yawning vistas opening up before me until I came across a book by Iris Murdoch called Bruno's Dream and it was like nothing I had ever experienced before,a weird world that yet was somehow strangely familiar imbued with a dream like quality peopled by odd characters with deep psychological flaws, just plain weird but intoxicating.I became a Murdoch fan. Then it was Truman Capote,Hemingway, Fitzgerald,Dickens,Shakespeare, Kafka Proust,Joyce et al.
I may now in retrospect be very skeptical of these writers but at the time they offered an alternative reality that was far more interesting than the mundane everyday world that most people appeared to inhabit.
I don't know what it is like in schools today forty years later but from what I hear there does not seem to have been any improvement at all and generations are being turned out disaffected and ill equipped to meet the challenges of global competition. Our universities have dumbed down, grade inflation has destroyed the qualifications system and a radical overhaul is now under way to turn things around. Will Gove succeed or will the institutionliased inertia of a Marxised union driven State education system mean that stasis prevails and the rot continues. We will have to wait and see.

What Philosophy?
Most people don't sit down and ask themselves what philosophy they are going to live by.They usually hold a mishmash of contradictory positions picked up, often unconsciously, from the culture and media around them if not from the religion they have been brought up in which they may or not reject. It is strange that we live in a culture where it is not even considered important to have an explicit philosophy and indeed such is frowned on as dangerous and indoctrination. This allows the education establishments ironically to insidiously promote a philosophy in a covert way undetected and with thus potentially destructive and pernicious results.Examples of such would be multiculturalism, environmentalism which are both Marxist at root.
Without a proper grounding in philosophy the student is a prime target for such indoctrination and the history of philosophy itself is anyway a graveyard of misbegotten irrational intellectual constructs totally divorced from reality and are mere corruptions of religion and mysticism which students will traverse at their peril.
I can only point the direction of travel which a student of philosophy should take namely a belief system grounded and rooted in reality not an artificial construct concocted out of thin air by a so called intellectual.

Is Objectivism For The Common Man?
One of the criticisms of objectivism the philosophy of Ayn Rand is that it is elitist and has nothing to offer the common man and on the surface this argument may appear to have some validity. If you are an ordinary working stiff, never aspiring to anything beyond your lowly station at Wallmart or Macdonalds, both honourable institutions I might add, then it is hard to see immediately how objectivism will speak to your situation.Objectivism, this argument goes,is for the high fliers, the ceos, the movers and shakers. All the main characters in Rands novels are super heroes of industry, prime movers, not the zeros commonly represented in modern fiction.
So yes,on the surface Rands philosophy of superman may have little to offer Mr average but even the latter likes to hero worship, hence the popularity of batman and other fictional heroes. We all need something to aspire to. Kitchen sink drama and reality programmes are well and good but they do not serve our deep rooted spiritual need and hunger for the depiction of greatness which is why the olympics enthralled so many. The race is to the swift and a philosophy that champions rather than seeks to denigrate and besmear them is a universal human requirement and sustenance no matter what station in life one occupies.
My one caveat with objectivists is that they do tend to fetishise work and speak of it as man's highest value but for the vast majority of people work is a means to an end namely survival,to pay the bills and correct me if I am wrong but I am guessing that a huge majority of the working population alas do not wake up every weekday morning and say yipee I am going to the thing I love,my job.

Brand Of Gibberish
Claiming that drug addiction is a disease rather than a volitional choice is the standard and pernicious cop out-of junkies and their apologists and it was the tired old canard the preposterous Russel Brand was pedalling in a BBC 3 documentary last night.
This absurd assertion is popular amongst the weak minded because it allows them to present themselves as victims of something beyond their control.Their habbit and lifestyle choice becomes instead a disease like cancer or tuberculosis and is thus conveninetly removed from the realm of volition morality choice and responsibility.Any hope of effecting a cure is foredoomed if this line is taken hence its preniciousness.
The wider issue totally unadressed was the role the State plays in prohibition and the obvious solution namely decriminalisation.Throwing people in jail for putting substances in their body is an egregious abuse of the criminal justice system and a gross violation of individual rights.

The Rugged Trousered Individualist
The individual poses an existential threat to Democracy and is public enemy number one.Independent schools teach independence.State schools teach Statism. The latter discourages individualism and encourages groupthink, enforced by Marxzoidal teacher unions whose job it is to miseducate and provide more welfare fodder and thus keep Labour which they bankroll in power. They teach employee mentality not employer mentality.
Entrepreneuralism is a threat and the young are taught to be dependent on others to employ them rather than start their own business.Employers are seen as the enemy to be controlled by taxes,Red tape, regulation and turned into defacto State employees, running a welfare service rather than a business.

Towards A UK Objectivist Republic
What would an Objectivist UK look like and what would it involve? I can only offer the following very broad sketch. Firstly, an outright rejection of Conservatism and its tradition worship, its lickspittle allegiance to monarchy and its mystical belief in altruism and State patronage and of course Labour with its undiluted statism.
An abolition of all taxation over a ten year period with its implicit abandonment of all welfare programmes and the funding of armed forces police and courts on a voluntary basis.
Others can fill in the details.I am not a policy wonk or a Ryan Paul.Simple declaration would say the State is not your parent. It will not police who you sleep with, what you ingest, what healthcare you purchase, what school to send your child to,how you spend your money.
The State's sole purpose is to protect your individual rights and to punish those who would seek to violate them. When it becomes the violator of said rights it is illegitimate and should be overthrown. The right to bear arms is in the Bill of Rights and people have a right to defend themselves against a tyrannical state.Capitalism is the only system that guarantees the above and any attempt to regulate it is the first step to Statism via the primrose path of the mixed economy on the altar of which all the main political parties worship.

Borris Is Redder Than Ken
The collapsing disintegrating tory party is clutching at straws in bigging up the ridiculous Borris Johnson who with his messianinc delusions, cult of personality and Socialist agendas is every bit as Red as Ken.
Whenever Tories get into office their feet are barely under the table and they have gone native and are empire building like the very Leftists they pretend to oppose.Grandiose infrastructure schemes, featherbedding industry, taxing, regulating, grandstanding, they become like the worst caricatures of liberals. The sorry Borris episode is one more reminder if one were needed that Tories and Leftists are all brothers under the skin and any rivalry between them is phoney and the mere narcissism of small differences.

Demagogracy
It is sobering to reflect on what little freedom there is in a democracy.Fundamental issues of choice are denied and no one appears to even notice.Whether it be in the area of education, health or how one's earnings are spent, all these things and more are now decided by politicians and government bureaucrats and the broad mass of the nation doesn't bat any eyelid as they hypnoidally file to the ballot box every five years to select their new tyrant.
As the years pass I have more and more sympathy for Guy Fawkes. In these more civilized times perhaps another method could be found to achieve the same ends. The rallying cry could be something along the lines of: 'starve a politician today - don't pay your taxes.'I am acutely conscious however that in this matter I appear to be a solitary figure crying in the wilderness.

Religion And Its Malcontents
Anyone can see the lunacy of David Icke and his ideas but many of those who do so are quite likely to hold a set of beliefs that are no less bizarre but because they are centuries old and are embedded into the culture they are not questioned or thought at all odd such as Christianity or Islam to name but two.Once supernatural ideas have been accepted their detail matters little, whether it involve christ resurrected,or a shape shifting reptile, both require a suspension of reason and disbelief,an abandonment of the mind and a reliance on faith.
A breach of the mind has been effected at this point and credulity and non thinking will now by default guide a person's life.Having had experience with believers I have seen myself how irrationality rules their daily lives and how their beliefs have given them licence to be irrational and then rationalise their beliefs to suit their agendas! No matter what happens to them they can always interpret it as a sign from God,the ultimate flexible friend.I can only conclude that as Freud said a century ago,all religious belief is a form of mental disorder. To be more up to date, Scott Peck said 'most people's religious beliefs are neurotically determined'.
Many in the religious establishment realising they are on shaky ground have sought to anchor their belief system in science itself,to coopt it in an attempt to legitimise it for a modern more skeptical audience and this is illustrated in the recent phenomna known as intelligent design theory. One religious leader even wrote a book called Finding God In Physics which begs the obvious question if you can do that why do you need faith, the very bedrock of religion?

Soham Travesty
The television programme last week about the murder of Holly Wells, the tragic child victim of killer Ian Huntley brought home starkly just how obscene the injustice of the liberal criminal justice system has become. The argument that if the State kills the offender this brings it (and by token us) down to the same level as the killer is crazy ill sorted liberal pretzellogic.
It is not killing the perpetrator of heinous murders that brings us down to the same level of moral depravity as them. The whole point of the justice system is to achieve a balance between the crime and the punishment. When those two are out of kilter, as they clearly are today, the injustice occurs.
We have also been told that the death penalty cheapens life but again this counter intuitive argument has been exposed as another liberal fallacy, for killing is very cheap today -you can practically get off with it scot free.People are killed for the most trivial of reasons,a pair of trainers,a mobile phone and it doesn't come cheaper than that.
Most reasonable people ie anyone who does not have their liberal head up their fundament would conclude that Ian Huntley never got his just deserts for his barbaric and evil deeds and that his only rightful place is dangling at the end of a rope.

Funny Thing About The Intellectual Left
Watching various appearances by Will Self on Youtube and whilst acknowledging that he is an interesting fellow with his monotone delivery and sesquipedalian peppered discourse I could not help but be reminded of an interesting characteristic of those intellectuals who lean leftward, namely the utter banality of their thoughts the minute they veer into the political. From complex ideas they slip seamlessless into the kind of banalities you would only expect to hear from a pub bore with an IQ in single numbers.Don't ask me to explain this phenomena, I only seek to drawn attention to it but it does fascinate me, almost as much as why people hold left wing beliefs in the first place!
The Tyranny Of Hurt Feelings
The tyranny of hurt feelings dictates that a person's freedom of speech be circumscribed by another's right not to be offended by it.We have the police arresting people for thoughtcrime, the expression of politically incorrect views on twitter and social network sights and this exactly a year after the police stood back and facilitated the wholesale looting and destruction of towns and cities across the country by feral yahoos and youths totally exempted from the rule of law.It is clear that the police have become a criminal corrupt arm of a corrupt State and that we are slouching inexorably towards totalitarianism. The Endgame of Democracy is staring us in the face.
Curse Of Izlam
We are all supposed to be terribly concerned about what is going on in Syria but I am not.I actually think arabs killing arabs is a good thing, something to be encouraged and facilitated rather than stopped. If they are killing one another they are not killing us.We know the self loathing amongst arabs is the death force that drives them, the endgame of their nihilistic belief system which is a corrupted plagiarized version of a plagiarisation (ie christianity) and it is entirely in our interest that they self eradicate themselves, raize each others mosques to the ground and put one another to the sword or roadside bomb and that they continue to do this on an industrial scale.
The only bright spot in the whole Middle east is Israel but for some reason we seem intent on demonising it whilst perversely championing the arabs who are primitive, barbaric, uncivilised and parasitic and have no redeeming qualities and instead have sought to destroy the modern world with the disgusting despicable amoral support of the so called intellectual Left.
The camel f#####s would still be living in tents if the West had not drilled for oil because they are too stupid and primitve to do it themselves, lacking the technological know-how.Then like the parasites they are they sought to nationalise the achievements of the West and we are in the mess we are today as a result.
Just as the Fascists killing Communists during the Second World War was a welcome development so the arabs and islamists killing one another is too.We should seek to deracinate arabs from the West, dump them back in their Middle East hell hole and let them finish the job of self extinction.

Boredom,The Last Taboo?
You never hear anyone talking about boredom in public.Children whine about being bored but for adults it seems like the shame that dare not speak its name.I sometimes wonder if I am the only one prone to it and it is a personal failing. As I only inhabit this space and no one else's I cannot tell for sure but I guess it is a universal human condition,a manifestation of what one associate long ago termed an awareness of 'the pain of one's existence.'
So if it is metaphysical in nature what is its provenance? Those of a religious bent would say, as the previous quote suggests, that it is the curse of fallen man,the painful awareness of one's sinful nature and being flawed and human we seek to escape from this feeling with endless distractions and pleasures.
All of modern life in this context could be seen as a flight from reality,a doomed attempt to escape from the realisation of our plight as sinners.I am not entirely sold on this explanation but it would explain the existential angst one periodically experiences.Boredom is a bit like a spiritual cancer that corrodes the soul.It steals up on one like a thief in the night but unlike the latter is reluctant to leave and hangs around for an hour or so and then goes as mysteriously as it came.Maybe it is a modern phenomena caused by too much leisure.
I actually find the average person very boring and cannot to be in the company of people for that long.Domesticity, the mundane, commonplaces, all these can set one off down the ennui path and of course if one is bored when alone the worrying yet ineluctable conclusion is that oneself is boring!

The Soul Of Man Under Democracy
Under democracy your life does not belong to you but the group.Your life is determined by majority vote.If you happen to belong to the right group you get advantages taken from those not in your group.Under Democracy your life is not your own.Conservatives are perfectly happy with this arrangement which is why anyone wanting to defend freedom and liberty should never vote for them. Many do out of a mistaken belief that they believe in freedom because they make some sympathetic noises to that effect but their actions invariably belie their words.Hence the frustration of so many Conservative voters and if you don't believe me go to Conhome website and witness all the frustration expressed by contributors towards the party they for some strange reason support.
I am puzzled why a libertarian party has not emerged here in the UK and would love to see such in the near future but am not aware of any grassroots movement alas. The political climate in the UK is very repressed and politically correct and even those who do have serious issues with Statism feel they have to pay lip service to it and pledge allegiance to welfare and taxation and big government.Anyone who stands up for unconditional liberty is villified and demonised and called an extremist so it takes strength and conviction to resist the tide of statism sweeping all before it.

Got Mitt Uns
Ok the man is a buffoon, belongs to a mad religious cult,is gaffe prone and once instituted an Obama type socialised healthcare programme but he is still a million times preferable to that Benedict Arnold Kenyan Communist Muslim change agent Sociopath in the White house now.Can he beat the psychopath incumbent I do not know but America's very survival rests on him doing so.5 more years of Obamination and America as we know it will have ceased to exist and it will have been replaced with a full blown Sovietised Marxist State.

Military Listen Up
Thousands of our boys come back from war traumatised and suffering from PTSS and it is a scandal that they have not been provided with the basic rudimentary fundamental psychological weapons of war to prevent this condition from developing in the first place never mind ignoring it after the fact and sending them back to civvy st to fill our jails and wreak havoc on their hapless families who bear the brunt of their untreated and wounded psyches. And what is the essence and core of the problem, what ommission in their training has left them vulnerable to psychological trauma,to turning them in effect into walking time bombs ready to explode at the slightest domestic stress or pressure?
The enemy has written the psychological handbook of winning by intimidation but it seems our best minds in the military have not read it much less disseminated it to their men in the field. This is scandalous.Outrageous.And the answer is so sublimely simple. We teach our military men not to be intimidated by the enemy.Yes we teach military tactics but what use is that if the enemy knows how to penetrate the psyche of our forces and traumatise them, effectivly programming them to go home and destroy their loved ones?
We must teach how to kill the enemy without compunction and without any reaction to intimidation by the enemy. The results will be instantaneous - no guilt,no trauma to bring home and unload on loved ones,no excess emotional baggage because there will not be any acccrued. An army like that would be invincible.
And lastly we must respect our military and not use them as pawns in some politically correct UN inspired phoney war where they are tasked with impossible missions to civilise Arab barbarians instead of just despatching them to hell where they belong. It is morally criminal treating our military like social workers attempting through some fatal misbegotten liberal conceit to win hearts and minds when the enemy's heart is black and the mind reprobate.

BBC Radio 4 Cognitive Disonnance Central
Radio 4 Today programme does cognitive disonnance on automatic pilot.Every other item is a shameless pitch for more government involvement. No matter what is under discussion the conclusion is invariably: the government needs to do something about it.My own solution to this is to mandate that a Conservative minded journalist like Andrew Neil be put into the Today prog and shake things up.
Imagine the likes of Naughtie and Humphries having to deal with Neil and the tension that would produce.Right now it is like a morgue,an air of death pervades the studio.Liberal assumptions of the programme and its ethos need to be counterpointed by a Conservative perspective and this should be mandated by the government in the name of balance and fairness.
Ultimately the BBC should be sold off to the highest bidder but in the meantime fairness and balance must be introduced into the programme composition as a matter of urgency. It is nothing short of a scandal that things have been allowed to develop where the Leftist tendentiousness of practically the whole output of radio 4 has gone unchecked and unchallenged for literally decades and it represents an abuse by the BBC establishment of its powers on an egregious and disturbing scale.

Conservative Necrosis
I was asked by Tim Montgomerie over at Con Home in the comments section to give my recipe for the party as I had criticised his.I couldn't be arsed because it would be a bit like giving careers advice to a cancer patient on his death bed. There is no future for the conservative party,it is in an advanced stage of necrosis. It needs death rites, not a manifesto.
Yes I come in for a fair bit of abuse for my pains on that site but the evidence is all on my side that this historical monstrosity belongs in the natural history musuem perhaps entitled Brontatoryaswrecks. To hear those folk over there suggesting various tweaks to get the show back on the road is so pathetic it almost makes you feel sorry for them in their deluded belief in their political resurrection.
A party that could not defeat Gordon Brown and had to save its very skin by getting into bed with Satan Liberals has got moribund written all over it.We should rejoice at that news.It will make way for a genuine pro Capitalist party that can stem the tide of Statism and reverse it radically. This I predict. The Tory party is dead.It just won't lie down -yet.

God And Peter Hitchens
In extracts I have heard of the estimable Peter Hitchens reading from his work Rage Against God apparently inspired by his late brother Christopher's personal campaign against the Deity I was rather disappointed that he did not attempt to counter any of the innumerable charges levelled against the faith by Christopher but instead has written a sort of confessional along the lines of St Augustine perhaps, telling us the sorry story of his abandonement of God at age of 14 and his consequent temporary descent into perdition via the primrose path of dalliance and prodigality until he was mercifully saved by a damascene epiphany to become the upright stern representative of the Good we all know and are familiar with today.
In a symbolic act and break with his reverence and respect for God and Authority the plucky and anarchic schoolboy Peter set fire to the Good Book and although his attempts at holy immolation were not fully successfull this symbolic act of rebelion and defiance unleashed he believes dangerous dark forces that he had no inkling of at the time.Leaving his faith behind unleashed a capricious, rude lawless helion who was free to dabble with the dark forces of drugs, treat people contemptibly, even mocking a boy in a wheelchair, generally acting obnoxiously and peppering his vocabulary with liberal helpings of obscenities at every available opportunity. He seemed to have concluded Dostoyevsky fashion that without God 'everything is permitted.'
This is a curious and common phenomena amongst believers ie that without God no moral ethical system for man is possible or conceivable. He tells of his time in the Soviet Union, its atheism and hatred of faith, almost implying that non-faith will lead to Communism.(He was at one time an unavowed Marxist.)For those undecided folk the believers do not help their cause by refusing to even join the debate on the issues and they leave a lurking impression that they have no answers to the aethiest argument. It is hard not to conclude that Mr Hitchens has switched from one ridiculous belief system to another without missing a beat.

Olympicphobia
People lining the streets to see the passing of the torch born by the ridiculous Tracey Enema who looks like a spaz, smiling lopsidedly, and the nation off its collective head in slavish groupthink Pavlovian response to a bread and circus folly signifying nothing.Terrorists will probe the soft underbelly of the city and we will rue the day Labour foisted this tax bloated monstrosity on us.

Where Is Our Ron Paul?
Why is there such a deafening silence from libertarians here in the UK?If anyone has spotted one on their travels please let me know. The MSM is a wasteland when it comes to expression of non statist views. This may puzzle some as we are supposed to be in a Democracy wherin exists a plurality of viewpoints.Obviously some viewpoints are more equal than others.
It seems in the national debate the parameters of the narrative have been set in concrete.Don't mention freedom.(I did it once but I think I got away with it.)I know some people think I am too hard on the Conservatives but they really are to blame for our plight by pretending to be defenders of Capitalism whilst selling it down the river at every available opportunity. They are like a dead weight of history ,a giant corpse of betrayed trust and false promises,a roadblock to freedom, prempting the field and flying under false colours.Until someone slays the beast there is no hope of change.

William Waldegrave Is An Idiot
So a Tory comes on the Today programme and warns against fetishising the free market. He appeals to a mystical Burkean tradition which involves (apparently) worshipping the unborn and the dead who comprise past and present voters - (don't follow me,I am lost too!)- and herein he claims, is the tory heritage of conjoining State and Market in some mushy embrace - and this is the essence of toryism.Well I guess this worship of the mixed economy is now the offical State religion and what a great record of success it is.Where is this mythical fetishinsing of the market anyway? Is Mr Waldegrave living in some other place, does he go round with blinkers on?I believe he is the standard Tory representing its prevailing 'philosophy' and if so it explains why when searching for a party that upholds freedom and liberty and Capitalism the Conservative party should be the very last place anyone should look.

The Dark Night Of Democracy
Individuals have nothing to benefit from Democracy and everything to fear.Throughout history individuals have been tyrannised by the Church,Monarchy and the State.Only in 19th century America did they escape this tyranny partially but because the constitution was flawed and did not stress individual rights fully it has been encroached upon by Statists of very stripe and gradually witled away until in its present form America is all but Socialist.
No one in Europe has any inking of liberty and its guiding principles as they have no history to draw from. There was never a time when some Lord,or priest or monarch or politician was not tyrannising over the populace and enslaving it with burdensome taxation.By 1945 the British people were totally set up to accept and even vote for their ultimate serfdom in the form of the Welfare State.Centuries of conditioning to enslavement led them like sheep to the ballot box were they duly bondaged themselves to serfdom.
Talk to anyone in Europe about the need for a small state and individual rights and a glazed look will come into their eyes or a sort of unfocused anger will possess them and the ad hominems will follow as sure as night follows day.Remember the movie The Body snatchers where everybody had been taken over by aliens and programed to do their masters bidding-this is where we are. Those who have not been 'snatched' have to take to the hills. You cannot debate with captured aliens or reason with them.Save himself who can.

Freedom Cannot Come Via Democratic Process
The trouble in democracy when it comes to regaining liberty is that there are too many vested interests ie part of the electorate for whom redistributing money via the tax system from their neighbour's wallets into their own is too attractive a proposition for them to want to vote for changing it.The producers and business people who create wealth are in a permanent minority and are ripe for plundering by politicians seeking power and votes from the majority. At least they should stop supporting financially the conservative party that never delivers any relief for the business sector and only heaps more taxes and regulation upon it.
This is known as sanction of the victims and the business community should cease such masochistic behaviour. They should instead seek to fund a movement that is wholly supportive of their interests but even this would never provide a majority at the ballot box and in conclusion one has to say that change cannot come through the democratic process and will of necessity involve employer's non compliance with the tax laws and concerted action by business to no longer play the sacrificial lamb to the state butcher.
Here I part company from the Randians who say that through education change will come.Well they have been saying that for over 60 years and look where we are.The States across the so called free world have only got bigger waiting for that to happen.Business should assert itself and no longer act as unpaid tax collector for the State or as welfare provider to their employees.Appealing to the masses to support such measures is like expecting turkeys to vote for christmas.
We have heard and seen an awful lot of delinquent behaviour from Socialist unions over the past century flexing their muscles and using force sanctioned by the State to extract money and concessions from employers. It is time now to see some collective action from the wealth producers in the form of civil disobedience and witholding of taxes and active resistance against state tyranny of taxation.

State Education V The People
A properly educated citizenry would have very little need for the State as provider. It would only seek its legitimate protection via its implicit threat of force towards those who would seek to cause them harm. This is why the State has a vested interest in ensuring that the broad mass of the populace is not properly educated. For this reason State education system is remarkable only in its success at producing uneducated and therfoe economically useless youths fit only to swell the ranks of the unemployed.Hence the resistance of State school establishment towards the academy movement started under the previous government and given form and self autonomy under the present administration.
The teachers unions have resisted this trend as they see the writing on the wall for the statist hegemony over education which is a form of pretectionism from competition and which defacto monopoly would be threatend by the introduction of independent non governmental groups running such schools thus freeing them from local council control with their implicit ideological stranglehold over the ethos of the schools.
So dogged and ideologically driven are the teachers unions that they have en masse resisted teaching phonics as a learning method of reading even though its staggeringly high success is well documented. With a looser curiculum not dictated by government this will introduce academic rigour into a system sadly lacking in the non academies sector which has been failing pupils for decades with trendy liberal politically correct subjects and methods of teaching that have failed too many young people whilst inflating their examination results in a cynical attempt to create a false picture of improvement and achievement.

Socialism As Secular Religion
Some people get annoyed when I say that Socialism is a secular religion but the characteristics and similarities between the two are striking as I will attempt to show.In a recent programme about the social reformer Annie Bessant it described how she abandoned her Christian faith for Socialism as she felt that the social ends she sought to achieve via Christianity could be better achieved through Socialism.
Many on the Left I believe made a similar journey from the mysticism of faith to the mysticism of collectivism with its dogma driven certainties, absolutes, pieties, authoritarianism, anti individualism, anti Capitalism and ruthless intolerance of dissenters and appeal to irrational groupthink tendencies.
Just as Christianity sought to control people's lives from a centralist authoritarian top down hierachical structure of the Church, scattering its benisons on the masses so too did socialism seek to appeal to the infantile wish of the masses for salvation from want and indigence via the agencies of the State rather than personal effort and achievement.Capitalism it was claimed led to selfishness and greed and alienation.
But is turns out that the profound deracination of self hood and anomie could just as easily be caused by an abandonment of individual action and the contracting out of personal responsibility to the State.God is dead, long live the State. At the root of both Christianity and Socialism is self sacrifice. The former urges people to sacrifice themselves to a mystical omnipotent deity, the latter to the omnipotent State. In both cases the individual wants and requirements are sacrificed to the 'other'ie anyone but them.
Lastly the two faiths are indeed held to by their adherents very frequently despite all evidence to the contrary. For example, even though the ministrations of Socialists have had palpably deleterious effects on their supposed beneficiaries the adherents to the faith evince no self examination or revision of said belief but hold fast to their faith even more doggedly and stubbornly showing once again how both religion and collectivism rely on mysticism and irrationality for their sustenance.
It is no accident that the country that took to Socialism and Communism most readily was Russia which was steeped in the mysticism of the Orthodox church with its other worldy fatalism, obscurantism, irrationality and superstitions. This fostered a passivity and fatalism amongst the people that the Communists would utilize to their great advantage on their assault on the individual and promotion of the paramountcy of the State to shape the individual into the desired collectivist mindset of conformity and obedience.
Was Christ indeed the first Socialist? He evinced a hatred of wealth and riches and took a vow of poverty.Rich people are going to hell -it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven.Give up your wealth and follow me.

Is Psychiatry The New Religion
Religion was rightly criticised for exploiting vulnerable people and gaining power over them for venal ends but it was duly supplanted by another system of control and manipulation no less pernicious and harmful namely psychiatry which has its own shiboleths and dogmas and uses similar techniques to gain ascendancy over the minds of its hapless followers who are duly subjugated under its malign thrall to a helpless state of dependency.
More sinister than religion psychiatry resorts to drugs to ostensibly 'cure' the patient but of course the only result is a catastrophic destruction of sensibility and cognitive integrity. The father of this chemical tyranny was the arch mountebank and fraud Sigmund Freud and his pseudo scientific psychoanalysis.
A drug addict himself and a nihilist he concocted a bogus pseudo academic theory and soon created a cult following for millions who were only too happy to discard religious superstition for the enlightened Freudian substitute with its emphasis on sexual liberation and analysis of the unconscious. With a marked lack of scientific rigour Freud turned out volumes of turgid prose sprinkled with classical references to lend it a scintilla of authenticity and a whole industry of psychotherapy was born.
Depression is an industry, every other person is diagnosed with it and the drug companies are in clover.Except of course that it has to be proven that such a condition exists.Unhapiness is pathologised but it may just be part of the human condition. For religion to be rejected is a welcome development. For it to be replaced by a superstitious pseudo science with all the worst characteristics of a religion is something akin to a tragedy.

Why The Left Lie About Ayn Rand
Listening to Stepehn Fry tell an interviewer why he hates Ayn Rand anyone not familiar with her writings would think her a preternatural monster up there with Hitler and Ghingis Kahn.(Indeed this is not an exagerration as Hitler is often invoked by the Left when discussing Rand of which perhaps more later.)
This is a syndrome that those familiar with Rand's critics and the methods they employ will recognise all too readily. It seems that their desperate desire to appear even handed fair reasonable and intellectually honest in discussions flies out the window when confronted with the uncompromising Rand and her unique brand of individualism and assault on collectivist thinking. When under threat and put under the microscope the Left have no conpunction in resorting to the most crude primitive anti intellectual weapons of assault including ad hominem ,non sequitors, evasions, distortions, caricatures and smears.
Fry admits to not having been able to read Atlas Shrugged but does not of course allow this to be an impediment from passing damning and definitive judgement upon it.Imagine if someone came along and asserted that although they had never completed reading a single work by Dickens or Shakespeare this was not a bar to being an authority on the subject and how they would be laughed out of court by Fry and co.
Obviously when dealing with an unalloyed evil like Rand the Left do not feel obliged to follow the normal rules of critical engagement and objectivity. Why bother with any of that when the scatter gun approach of unsubstantiated charge and abuse will serve your purpose just as well?
To be specific Fry denounces Rand's 'hatred of ordinary people' which he terms 'just sick'.It is true that the Randian universe is mostly peopled with the extraordinary but that is the whole point. She is from the Romantic school of hero worship.Just as well criticise the authors of Superman or Batman for their lack of depiction of ordinariness and mediocrities. There is a whole literary genre depicting ordinary folk in the literature of Naturalism where anybody can have their fill of portrayals of zero worship and the anti hero.
In wanting freedom over slavery surely it could be argued that Rand is showing more respect for the ordinary people than the likes of Fry and his fellow collectivists who would have everyone herded into a Socialist commune and be delivered State edicts and directions from on high - for their own best interests of course.Disturbingly in his assault of Rand Fry evokes Meine Kampf and The Communist Manifesto and remarks that although Stalin did some terrible things at least the Manifesto offers some hope for humanity!Yes it is hard to fathom just how intellectualy dishonest delinquent and well, evil the Left can be.Perhaps he shares the latter's view that while one death is a tragedy a million is a statistic?

Why Murray Couldn't Win
Listening to Martina Navratilova on Desert Island Discs one couldn't help be moved by her spirit and the story of how a girl from a Marxist hell hole Communist Checslovakia escaped to America and was removed as if onto another planet with amazing shops and variety of food and the contrast between the drab prison of communism and the bright shiny lights of Capitalism could not have been more vivid or pronounced. It was just the icing on the cake when she chose Ayn Rand's Fountainhead as her book to take with her on the mythical island. That extraordinary novel is a handbook for winners and a cry against all the mediocrity that collectivism preaches and extolls. You cannot imagine the dour Andy Murray reading the Fountainhead far less understanding it.This country has schooled losers and failures for 60 years.Glorious failures are written into its dna. There are no winners,no competition, all must have prizes.See the grotesque spectacle of XFactor and the number of people who think they can sing because someone has told them so and because they deserve it.It takes a lot to turn a prosperous country into a economic and spiritual basket case but the Socilaists did it through the Welfare State and yesterday one more of its chickens came home to roost on the Wimbledon Centre Court.

Towards A Smaller State
People are quite receptive to reducing the size of the State if you ask them some simple questions. One would be 'who do you think should determine the kind of school your child attends, the State or you?' or''who should decide what sort of medical care you receive, you or the State?'Or 'who should decide what charities you support, you or the State?'The questions could go on like 'who should decide what art you pay for, you or the State?'All of these are no brainers. No one but a dyed in the wool Socialist would answer 'the state' to any of the above. And yet we see the State expand exponentially removing choice from people in more and more areas. This can only mean that it is expanding by default,in the absence of such questions being posed. If you offer people a real choice between freedom and slavery who would choose the latter but masochists?

Sins of The Mixed Economy Visited On Capitalism
The way the narrative about the economic crisis has been written by the statists is instructive and the unchallenged smears levelled against Capitalism have been unconscionable.See,the statists argue, this is the failure of capitalism when of course it is gross interference in the market by various governments that caused the crisis in the first place with their ill advised regulation, meddling and too big to fail bailing out of banks via taxation and pressurising of banks to dispense housing loans to people who could never afford them which caused the housing crisis..Whatever else this was it was not Capitalism but more like phoney crony corporatism.Still the narrative persists and the anti banking, anti business, anti Capitalist rhetoric is ratcheted up by the Leftists who see this as their chance to claim the moral highground and reimpose their collectivist solutions. If they are allowed to do this by default in the absence of a vigorous defence of freedom liberty and capitalism we will surely enter another dark night of the soul of collectivism in a back to the future socialist dystopia.
Can a Freedom Party Gain Traction In A Democracy?
It is an odd characteristic of Democracies how they gravitate to the centre ground of the Statist Quo and bar the US no libertarian movement has emerged across the globe. This is a puzzler and one I do not pretend to fathom. There are clusters of libertarian thought but they have not coalesced into a political force. Is it for want of a charismatic figure to lead the charge or more the individualistic nature of the libertarian that militates against collective action?Probably more the latter.A third explanation could be that libertarian thought is so diverse and contradictory that no coherent ideology has emerged for people to rally around.
It is true that libertarianism is a very broad church, comprising such irrational theories as anarchism, minarchism, mutualism,Communism socialism ad nauseam. All the while it is so fractured and schismatic no united force against Democractic Statism can be anticipated. We have to look as mentioned to the US for guidance and as a marker of how to proceed with the tea party and the resurgence of interest into the founder of libertarianism herself although she repudiated the movement as irrationalist and opportunist - Ayn Rand. Her theories and writings on liberty and Capitalism and exposes of Leftist thought have never been equalled and any defence of Capitalism has to reference her contribution as a guide to how to proceed.
An obstacle to freedom has been the Conservative movement which has presented itself quite unjustifiably and misleadingly as the champion of Capitalism when it has temporized with the mixed economy for 60 years and counting.Because it has been mischaracterized by its opponents on the Left as being pro Capitalist people have wrongly assumed that it is pro freedom when all its actions in accommodating mixed economy have belied such an assumption.Until people can be disabused of the notion that Conservatism equals Capitalism the Conservatives will continue to prempt the field and prevent the emergence of a pro Capitalist movement to dethrone it and consign it to well earned political oblivion.
The weird thing about Democracy is how limited the debate is.Those who believe in small government are nowhere to be see and if they dare to stick their head above the parapet they are immediately shot at with ad hominem abuse and labelled extremist.

Enough Is Enough
BBC radio four plumbs new depths of craven inanition. On the Today programme prof Skidelski on why people don't know when they have enough acquisitions and how they should be taxed in their consumption to stop them. The only response to Left wing professors when they serve up this arrant Socialist nonsense and offensive authoritarian guff is: 'how dare you presume to tell us what represents 'enough' in our private affairs -go fuck off and die'.

Democracy and The Age Of Barbarism
The greatest con trick ever perpetrated on the human race is Democracy. It presents itself as a noble ideal,as the flower of civilization when it is nothing but barbarism with lipstick.Democracy gives each man the right to be his own dictator as someone said but to hear people utter the word with a beatific look on their face as if they had uttered a pious incantation shows how easily gulled and fooled the masses are.Human beings do have parasitic tendencies and the politicians who slither to power being the sociopaths they are know this proclivity fully well and utilize it to gain power and build a career out of the legal plunder that is Democracy.Instead of having to work for values, simply by marking a cross at the ballot box the electorate are offered a slice of other's property and wealth forcibly extracted through taxation. This is the essence of mob rule and it is Democracy.Under a republic this could not occur. The rights of individuals would be protected and no majority would ever be able to threaten them.As Thomas Jefferson observed:"Democracy is 51% of the population's wealth and property voted away by the other 41%".Under a Republic not even 99% of the people would be able to vote away the wealth and property of the other 1%.No more pious cant is ever uttered than when in the defence of Democracy. We have just seen it at work in Egypt where the muslim brotherhood have been voted into power.Authoritarians love Democracy because it is the legitimizor of groupthink and mobrule sanctified by the ballot box.
Under Democracy we have Conservatives and the liberal left and they argue in phoney opposition about how much wealth should be plundered from the people through taxation. The former are in favour of lesser degree of plunder than the latter but because they have conceded the moral argument that such plunder is moral and legitimate the only winner is plunder as a moral good and it is only a matter of time before Democracy degenerates into its logical conclusion of tyranny.
Before the masses can be enslaved by Democracy a language has to be created to present this barbarism as benign.Words like 'fairness' are used and 'equality',and anyone who opposes such noble things are labelled as selfish and anti social and thus is debate stifled and all opposition silenced.

Government Obesity
BBC prog in three parts has been discussing how food marketers made everyone fat by increasing portion sizes, encouraging grazing and in between meal snacking and adding huge amounts of sugar to soft drinks and sweets.Being a BBC programme of course it was not long before the agenda hove into view:the government should tax sugar. No mention whatsoever of who is to blame for this 'epidemic' of obesity: the people who devour such stuff.Did the marketers pin them down and force-feed them this confection of junk? There is only one threat to the people and it is not supersize burger or coke but supersize government that wants to tell us what to do every minute of the day,to police our eating habits and all our comings and goings.

Taxation As Terrorism
The news that comedian Carr has been avoiding tax has provoked a cacophony of phoney outrage by the establishment for whom taxation avoidance is deemed a heinous crime when it it is of course a perfectly natural response of anyone towards a mugger seeking to separate him or her from their property except of course in this case it is the State that is the mugger and its predatory attentions are harder to evade. The moral case against taxation is totally absent from public discourse. No politician would dare to broach it as their political existence is dependent upon the predatory State and its kleptocratic designs.

Anti Politics Open Door
There is so much disgust by the general public of all things political that now is a perfect time to introduce revolutionary thinking into public political discourse. The arguments are not essentially political but philosophical namely what the role of the state actually is.The challenge is to take the argument to the defenders of big State mixed economy and argue for markets, freedom, deregulation and pure laissez faire capitalism on purely moral grounds.Up till now it has been left to the Conservatives to carry the baton for Capitalism but they have dropped it way back in the mists of time and are now fully paid up members of the pragmatic mixed economy compromise which has bedevilled the country for decades and left us in this sorry pass we are now in.The country cannot be saved on a mixture of flawed premiseswhich are toxic and rooted in egalitarianism and socialism. This must be rejected and a stout defence of freedom and liberty presented in unambiguous unapologetic terms.
To do the above we first have to ask the question why are Conservatives so reluctant to champion Capitalism unambiguously. The answer lies in a comment Peter Hitchens made a month or so ago on the Andrew Marr Start the Week programme on radio four. When asked to define Conservatism and its roots he claimed, I think with justification, that it has its roots in Christianity. Now one thing we know about Christianity is that it is strong on self sacrifice and altruism which is why it very often seems to be more aligned with Socialist thinking than Capitalism. The fact that Hitchens believes in a nationalised post office and rail system,is profoundly anti car which is a symbol of Capitalism and is social Conservative when it comes to proscribing personal behaviour he disapproves of such as drugs only serves to prove how profoundly anti capitalist such conservatism can be.Sunday trading laws are far too liberal he believes, the list goes on and illustrates how hopeless and futile it is to rely on Conservatism to defend Capitalism.Until enough people can see what a lost cause Conservatism is re Capitalism the spelll cannot be broken and tory voters will continue breathing life into the rotten raddled party.
People are so conditioned to think that altruism is moral that it is a task and a half to convince them otherwise. The media hammers away at this meme 24 7 and no one even exposes the ideology of socialism that underpins the tax system.Any discourse on taxation starts from the unchallenged premise that taxation is inherently moral and anyone who seeks to avoid paying it is guilty of a heinous crime.Until the ideology behind taxation namely altruism is challenged no progress can be made in eliminating it from the moral realm in which it is ensconced by default. What a triumph of the Left that they have managed to entrench their ideology at the very heart of the tax system and to have ensured that it is morally unassailable. This is where we need to strike,at the very heart of the beast! It is a bit like the emperors new clothes syndrome.Once one person or group challenges this canard the whole system will come tumbling down.Any political party or movement that introduces this subject into public discourse will have the whole field to itself because the status quo dare not raise this issue as it is considered too radical, unthinkable, beyond mention.

The Politics of Looting
The rioters and looters last summer were pitiable amateurs. To see how the profesionals do it we need to go to the political classes all across the Western world. These people have perfected their craft over centuries, they know how to loot wholesale, theirs is a sophisticated and powerfull bureaucracy of looting via taxation and they have brainwashed the masses into thinking this is a)moral and b) inevitable when it is of course neither. It is a confidence trick and they are well versed in it,and use the whole panoply of the coercive State to intimidate the people with threats of inprisonment if they dare to resist their parasitic claim on their life and substance through taxation. The pathetic figleaf of rationale they employ to justify this legal plunder is nothing more than the miserable canard of altruism, the squalid anti-life philosophy of self-sacrifice where the competent achievers are enjoined to sacrifice themselves to the incompetent non achievers through 'progressive' taxation.Taxation is the use of agression by the state on a disarmed populace. If we apprehend a burglar in our house we can use force against him, likewise if the State initiates force and violence against the individual via taxation then the individual has a right to defend himself against such depredations. That established need now only discuss the means that should be employed to defend ourselves against the predatory State.

Join Me In My Death Cult I Mean Religion
I am starting a new religion. It is based on a mystical entity I dreamt of last night. It was a being of almighty power and dimension and it chose me as its representative!I am endowed with special powers that must not be questioned.Young people will come to my churches that I plan to build on every street corner and be indoctrinated I mean taught the only true way.Of course my religion will be protected by the State. No one must offend me or my feelings, how dare they even think of such blasphemous thoughts!Such hate crimes and bigotry will not be tolerated!Who knows what might befall such objectors to my divinely inspired edicts.Soon everyone will have to be converted to my faith. All laws will be changed to comply with my religion of course.Women will cover themselves in public. Our schools will be tax funded.Of course I am well aware that my religion will take several centuries to bed in.Many wars will have to be fought to lend it the authenticity of longevity.Millions will have to die sacrificed on the altar of the new faith before it is given its just recognition. Am I mad,how could such a thing ever come to pass you say?Is this all too far fetched? Thank God it was just a dream and such outlandish things could never happen here in the UK lol.
The Power To Tax Is The Power To Enslave
People! When will you awaken from your sleep of reason and see that the unfettered taxing State is the tyrant who would enslave you all! What will it take? The bonds of slavery are already fastened around you.The seductive voice of the enslaver State has lulled you into a comatose hypnosis proffering you welfare extracted from you in the first place. How stupid are you,how easily gulled, disarmed by the sophistry of tyrants who would give you everything and take everything to do it to feed the parasitic welfariat bred into existence with your hard earned money taken in taxes. You fools, you imbeciles credulous to the last, voting in another batch of tyrants who will take away your remaining freedoms whilst promising you the earth. How do they do it?By appealing to the most evil impulse in the human breast:the desire for the unearned. What is tyhe evil creed they use to disarm your opposition be there any? Altruism.Self sacrifice with its Christian Platonist roots. For centuries you have had it dinned into you.Sacrifice is the highest ideal, bare your neck to others needs and wants. To keep what is yours is evil,to give is good, the rich are evil the poor are good.Poverty is a virtue, wealth is the root of evil.Tax,tax, tax the rich till they squeal.Dare to achieve, aspire, become wealthy?Woe betide you,you will become hated, envied, lectured to,robbed stripped of your wealth to feed those who are too lazy to feed themselves and all in the name of the evil of altruism. This crime against humanity is committed under many names,Communism,Socialism,Fascism,Liberalism,Democracy,Conservatism but its goal is the same: to rule and enslave the minds of the creators and to bring into being a substrata of subhumanoids bred on welfare with a sense of entitlement hardwired into them represented by the power elite who promise them yet more of the unearned taking from the taxes of the few remaining producers who are stupid enough to carry on working under bondage.

Democracy Stupid
It would be very hard for a man to argue that the world owed him a living.Even politicians would never come out with such a bald statement. In order to get away with such an obscene proposition the defender of such an untenable argument would have to deploy deliberately vague imprecise language with liberal helpings of euphemism and obsfuscation.Ostensibly laudatory statements along the lines of 'no man should go hungry or be without shelter' would have to be put to service.Even better, hunger ignorance and want could be presented as enemies to be fought and overcome by the benevolent State which is exactly what was done at the inception of the welfare stte in 1945.Thus the wool is pulled over people's eyes and no one has to think about where the money for such noble aims is going to come from.An impersonal agent called 'the government' is somehow going to magic this money out of thin air and play santa claus to every bum who chooses not to work or provide for himself. Thus all anathema can be heaped upon the government for not providing enough or for being heartless in its meagre response to the needs of the indigent.
No man would go to his neighbour and demand that he feed and shelter him, that indeed it is his duty to so do but he will vote for the politician who promises to take money from his neighbour in taxes to do just that. How can anyone doubt or question that such a system is depraved, corrupt and evil, that it robs people of their substance in the service of parasitism and mendicancy? Is it even possible to comprehend the state of moral depravity of the man who would make a career out of redistributing the money from the productive to the non productive and that a whole body of philosopy and politics could have been constructed to present such criminality as a moral ethical system and that if anyone demurs from such a view they would be castigagted as themselves being immoral and heartless?Such is the audacious achievement of the collectivists and socialists who now dare not speak their name and rather present themselves as social democrats or liberals.
How is this injustice to be properly challenged? Anyone who chooses to take on the collectivists would have to challenge the language they deploy and translate their true intent therby. No easy task...

Marxist Scum On The March
Here we go again.1979 revisited. This is the scum Maggie was supposed to have routed but it was just tory folklore because the stake was not driven into the black and rotten heart of the union beast, it only had its wings clipped.None of the political parties will deal with the unions. It would take another party representing capitalism to do that.Expect more of the same as we death spiral over the cliff Greekwards.

As Berlusconi Is Bundled Out In EU Coup What Price Democracy?
There is no longer any pretence that the EU is democratic with the summary ousting of Berlusconi by EU commisars and his replacement with euphemistically termed 'technocrat' Monti as the BBC refers to him with drooling approval. This is a naked power grab more in keeping with third world banana republics and thugocracies.Imagine if the Spanish Socialist MP had been similarly ousted as his country goes into economic meltdown and the howls of outrage and gnashing of teeth this would elicit from the MSM BBC Guardianistas But.because it was the Left's bete noire Berlusconi is was met with relief approbation and dancing in the streets. The mask is now off and the Germans are now forth reich in their demands that UK falls in line with their master plan of complete EU German hegemony.
Tim Nice But Dim Mongomerrie Thinks Cameron Is The New Major
Major Major? He kept us in the EU, the quisling. He tinkered with welfare and Curried favours.Anyone who dared to stand on principle was a 'bastard'.Thatcher's verdict on him: "I thought he was one of us.I was wrong." At least no one could make that mistake with the human oil slick Tory Cameron with his Maoist localist tendencies and Big Society collectivism.(The above is what I posted to conhome but for some reason they have not carried it.)

An Interview With Myself
When does a mixed economy become a Socialist economy?About 50 years ago.
What do you think of Economic liberalism? I think it would be a very good idea.
Why don't Conhome allow half of your posts? Can't handle the truth.
Does Izlam pose an existential threat to Civilization? You bet it does.
When are you going to start your Capitalist movement? About 3 months ago.
Why is the Occupy Capitalism movement gathering momentum? Total lack of any concerted rebuttal of its patent absurdities and toxic anti freedom message.
What should be done about the BBC? It should be privatised, sold off of course preferably to Rupert Murdoch.Failing that - and no one hold their breath - there should be an organised non-payment of licence fee.
Are you an extremist? Yes.I beleive everyone should be extremely good extremely moral and extremely rational.Extremism is a measurement not a moral value.
Are people ready for unregulated laisez faire Capitalism? They better be. Freedom is not optional and cannot be put to the vote.Or you get Nazi Germany or Democracy which is mob rule by the ballot box.
Why are Conservatives so morally weak, spineless, confused, irrational and contradictory? Glad you asked! They are all those things and more because they have no moral base,no rational moorings, no guiding principles or values. They are whim worshippers, subjectivists, pragmatist, traditionalist, tribalist, religious with vague inconsistent leanings towards Capitalism. All of which is why they were not able to oppose the construction of the Welfare State,The EU and now the global anti Capitalist movement. If you are waiting for them to put up a moral defence of Capitalism take to the hills and find a nice cave.
Do people have a right to self defence? Do you have to ask?! Of course. The Brits even have a Bill of Rights which clearly allows the bearing of arms.
Is taxation moral? Hell no.It is the most evil imposition of force against a defencelss population in the whole of human history. It is worse than cannibalism. At least cannibals wait till you are dead before eating you.Taxation is the devouring of man's substance whilst he is still alive. It is so monstrously evil and obscene that no man has ever justified it or even attempted to but has merely served up stale bromides in its defence which a three year old child could see through yet whole nations have been cowed by in the absence of any moral consistent, coherent defence of liberty and freedom with the sole exception of Ayn Rand.
Why are Conservatives worshippers of tradition? Because they are tribalist.Collectivist in short. They believe in blood and race which makes them irrationalist and racist. They support rule by bloodline and birth ie monarchy, the divine right of kings, constitutional totalitarianism.Unless someone has been knighted and a sword placed on both shoulders he has no moral legitimacy to rule over his subjects, note subjects, not citizens. This is feudalism, mysticism, ancester worship, voodoo in ermine, ugly primitivism masquerading as civilization.
Is there any hope for the human race? Could go either way.At present trends are not looking good. There is an intellectual moral vacuum and tribalistic yahoos and collectivists are filling the breach. The voices of opposition and reason are crowded out and marginalised in the mainstream media. The blogosphere and modern media are the only hope that things can be turned around. But the yahoos appear to have co opted those as well by default as the rational are too quiescent and unorganised.

Harrison Mystical Materialist
Don't know what to make of the first half of the George Harrison Scorsece film last night. It was a bit of a muddle but I think that is his MO.Half the people who spoke I did not recognise because in order to distance himself from Run of the Mill documentarists Scor thinks it is a cachet not to include their names. The only thing I was thinking last night was that the genius of the Beatles was obviously Paul.In five minutes or less I had counted 20 classic ballad tracks of his but when I tried to count lennon's contribution I was struggling after identifying just three. It has now been confirmed that Paul was the driver and had he not rallied the troops a good third of their recordings would never have seen the light of day as Lennon was notoriously lazy. There has been so much hype and idolatory surrounding Lennon, about he was the Beatles but there is no hard evidence to back this up.He made a right tit of himself in 69 with his bed in peace nonsense, got lost in avant garde excrement with Loco Ono,flirted with Janov Primal Scream and then retreated into pseudo domestic bliss whilst Loco built up the Lennon empire. As for Harrison he got lost up his own mystical fundament and started to preach religious mumbo jumbo after being slipped some acid by his dentist. They all trooped off to Maharashi but soon took flight after his charlatanism became obvious to everyone but George who by this time was set on a path of blisful inanition. He wrote a handful of cracking songs not least the iconic Taxman and was genial enough but definitely the third Beatle and hardly deserving of 4 hours on BBC2.It turns out as a footnote that when a mad assailant broke into his mansion and stabbed Harrison just missing his vital organs by inches instead of repelling the would be assassin Harrison sat there and chanted Hari Krishna whilst his long suffering American wife Oliva beat the attacker over the head with a lampshade thus saving George from certain death. You couldn't make it uo.Give Peace a Chance what?!
This all begs the question what makes certain celebrities embrace mysticism when they appear to have the world at their feet.I think it is misplaced guilt. We live in a culture that says money making is evil and to assuage this unearned guilt they retreat into the unreality of mysticism and merge into an unfocused induced trance-like state where guilts and neurosis are purged in an amnesiacal haze brought on my chanting into a hypnoidal state which is how Harrison describes the process in the Scorsese film.Yes he was an arch defender of property rights and opponent of taxation per se but his irrational unease with wealth led him to the unreason of mysticism as a refuge. This is where all the hypocrisy comes in.We now have an extremely wealthy man living in a mansion that most quotes ordinary people could not even imagine in their wildest dreams preaching to the world the virtues on non materialsm.A few miles down the road John Lennon is sitting in his mansion at a grand piano or was it Steinway? singing a song to us with the lyrics,Imagine no possessions.Clearly none of them did irony. The hangers on were too timid and self interested to point out the glaring contradictions. Both Beatles now literally had everything: their spiritual/materialist cake and could eat it too.
This brazen hypcocrisy is now common. The two Beatles were merely the trail blazers in it.Now we have to listen to lectures by millionaire rock stars on an almost daily basis on the the evils of capitalism. Must it not be intensely irritating to people who struggle to make ends meet to have to listen to the likes of George Harrison in his mansion telling themthat money is not important? It is also the height of irresponsibility as many impressionable people possible tens of thousands who knows? dropped out of the material world altotgether but unlkike Harrison did not have a mansion to retreat into and ended up destitute on drugs and then dead. Some legacy George.

Lest We Forget And Get A Life
Trying to forget it is Rememberance Sunday. Not very difficult really is it?! It is so vacuous an affair, so insubstantial it is a bit like railing against thin air.Basically it is an excuse for perpetuation of monarchy, empty pomp and non circumstance and a terrible criminal waste of tax payers money. It is a display of fraudulent pseudo patriotism, an obscene pantomime of empty gravitas played out against the total capitulation to our slave masters across the channel, our liberties sold on the instalment plan to Brussels. This betrayal of our birthright on such a massive scale is a cause of shame but this sham sorrow and ersatz sentiment is an added insult to our national shame.British soldiers died for nothing. We are slaves of the Germans and French.Hitler won. End of.

Render Unto Caesar What Is Seizers
As someone has just helpfully pointed out to me the history of taxation is a long one indeed.I do not pretend to be a student of that.I seem to remember reference to ancient Egypt in that regard. One thing I do know is that Jesus Christ appeared in the Bible to give his tacit consent to the principle of taxation when he said to an enquirer into the proper role of the State: "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.Someone else also told me that in the Mormon church it was said that people should obey their State masters if they are honourable men. There is more evidence amongst the big religions of an anti capitalist, individualist bias.I think the Socialists can rightly claim religion as being on their side. There is some evidence that contradicts this trend however re the quote: 'you do not see the righteous begging for bread'.The good samaritan is able to help because he has money but altruism seems to be advocated here. The story of the talents may also be construed as a defence of Capitalism and investment so the picture is not unequivocal. The point is however that just because taxation stretches back into the mists of time and even Jesus Christ seemed to accept it morally does not mean it is moral or good.As well say human sacrifices go back thousands of years ergo they must be good. The argument from tradition is fallacious. If it were not one would have to accept cannibalsim as a moral system since it stretches back a long way.
Why We Desperately Need A Capitalist Party
On Con home recently someone posted a piece about the need for a moral defence of Capitalism. All well and good but the writing in question completely failed to propose any coherent strategy to that end.It is futile in my opinion to expect the Conservatives to mount such a defence. They lack the philosophical consistency and rigour to do it.They pride themselves on their anti intellectualism and pragmatism. This is why over generations they have betrayed the cause of freedom and compromised with collectivist premises and policies all the way down the line from the construction of the Welfare State to the UK membership of the EU.Their tacit if not overt support of a 'constitutional' Monarchy is yet another indication of how they are not equipped to defend liberty and have no moral ground upon which to do it.Waiting for Conservatives to secure our liberty agsainst a predaTory illiberal State will be a truly Becketian excercise of delusional and groundless wishful thinking escalating to Dizzying levels of Kafkaesque futility.
Who Will Defend Liberty?
It is not fair to expect producers and business people to be on the frontline in defending the right to keep the fruits of their labour for this reason.Producers and businessmen spend all their time pursuing their goals and objectives and do not necessarily have the tools and knowledge to argue philosophically against the State's predatory and illegitimate claims on their productive labour through taxation.Just because someone is a very sucessful businessman does not mean he or she will be able or willing to articulate a coherent defence of property rights from an anti taxation position. That takes an acquisition of knowledge and great familiarity with the arguments against egalitarianism and this is not something necessarily the business world is cognizant of, familiar with or equipped to articulate.Businessmen are not ipso facto qualified to give an intellectual defence of freedom. That is the job for intellectuals and activists, writers, bloggers, indeed anyone who is prepared to enter the fray and campaign for liberty. It would be nice if they were as their contribution to the battle would have extra ballast and weight simply because they would be speaking from a position of direct knowledge and experience of the productive wealth acquisition principle but we cannot expect them to be experts in the defence thereof. The greatest defenders of liberty have been profesional writers and thinkers, not entrepreneurs. This is because writing is a profession in itself and a comletely different discipline from trade and business and an ability in one does not necessarily imply and ability in the other. The downside of this reality is that such intellectual defenders of liberty can be dismissed as mere armchair theorists and ivory tower intellectuals although the Left are quite happy to quote verse and chapter from the quitessential armchair theorist Marx who apparently never set foot inside a factory and spent most of his life in the British library! In his defence at least the latter did not rely on State handouts but instead the patient financial assistance of Engels albeit with rich irony with money sourced from the Capitalist system he sought to destroy, but I digress.
None of the above however is to excuse the craven capitulation of the business class to the anti capitalist sentiment abroad, the grovelling apologetic defence of Capitalism, the half hearted support of it, the damning it with faint praise, the obscene defence of it on altruistic grounds of all things. If business men cannot defend Capitalism properly they would do better to say nothing at all.
Until I understood the above regarding defence of Capitalism as a job for profesional writers and thinkers etc I was prone to get very annoyed with the so-called business community but I think I maligned them albeit unwittingly here. The one group of people I will not forgive however and who deserve the greates obloquoy is the so- called defenders of Capitalism ie the Conservatives. They have done more to betray our liberty and freedom in the last 200 years than any other group including the Socialists and the Labour Party.Their crime is unforgiveable because it is their job for which are paid out of the public purse to defend our freedoms and they have done more to destroy them as I say than any other group, political orgnisation and movement throughout history. Why do I say this? Well everyone knows the Socialists hate freedom and liberty and Capitalism and they only pretend to favour it if pushed but the Conservatives are supposed to be the defenders of Capitalism and their betrayal of it is so complete, absolute, comprehensive and total that no one could possibly claim that it is accidental or caused by some misunderstandng of the principles of Capitalism. It is deliberate and intentional. No mistake over such a wide span of generations and time could possibly be accidental. They know exactly what they are doing. It is systematic and conscious. To vote for them after such knowledge is to participate in one's own destruction and is an act of self immolation.
Here to interject a small but not insignificant point.I do not seek to decry intellectuals but only to point out that at least inthe UK there is a deep seated distrust of them particularly from the Right. The writer Anthony Burgess used to decry British mistrust of intellectuals and I know it has a long history but more recent times and events have given it momentum and a patina of justification.Conservatives sometimes appear militantly anti intellectual and I think this is because of recent history re intellectuals and how it lead to the bloodbaths of the 20th century via Communism and Socialism and Fascism which of course are all variants of collectivism as much as the Left seeks to distance itself from Fascism and purports to be its greatest enemy.Hitler lest anyone needs reminding called his party National Socialist. How the Left resent this being pointed out to them which is the very reason why it should be,regularly! So because of this lamentable record of intellectuals siding with totalitarian concepts the Right Conservatives wrongly concluded that they should abandon the field of intellectualism entirely which has only led to the Left by default, holding complete hegemony over it in all our institutions of learning and media. But the point is this, intellectual promulgation of ideas is work, productive activity if it takes the form of books written and sold, dvd broadcast and diseminated etc.Intellectual property is as valid as any other and should not be decried or apoloogised for.It is the food and ammuniton for the public and as such is essential.
So to conclude who should we go to for an unbreached intellectual philosophical comprehensive defence of liberty and Capitalism? There is only one writer I could in all honesty recommend and that is Ayn Rand.I am very familiar with her writings but would not in any way pretend to be in the same stratosphere as her in any way shape or form and and consider myself as nothing more than a pedestrian student of her work. There may be other defenders but I have never come across them.Ludvig von mises has given a partial defence of Capitalism.Frederik Basiat is a brilliant essayist and satirist of collectivist thinking but for a complete, closed universalist philosophical system comprehensively supported by rational argument no one has come close to Ayn Rand.It is to her writings alone I would direct any students of Capitalism.Even if afterwards people choose to dismiss her arguments they cannot really argue agsinst Capitalism without first familiarising themselves with its most brilliant and uncompromising defender.( please forgive appalling grammatical and spelling errors, they will be corrected in due course, or at least those I identify!)

Freedom - If You Want It
The 19th century writer Henry David Thoreau went to jail for not paying his taxes and wrote an essay about it entitled On Civil Disobedience.I hold no brief for him from a philosophical standpoint as his writing spawned the environmentalist movement of the 20 and 21st century but he is an interesting though sadly rare example of someone who understood the essential tyranny of taxation and the implicit violation of liberty it entails.Precious few others have taken a stand.Indirectly we have to come up to the present day almost with Ken Dodd who simply did not file his tax returns but he did not explicity consciously stand on principle in so doing although his comments suggested that he understood the prevailing evil of the system when he remarked that he kept his money around his house because he thought society was going to collapse in the 70s and he needed to take precautions against such a calamitious eventuality. He was spared jail only because he was practically universally loved as a national treasure and comic genius adding immeasurably to the joy of nations and the tyranical State dared not risk the wrath of the people by incarcerating him and therby possibly precipitating a mass revolt against such a tyranical tax system.Lester Pigott on the other hand being a less sympathetic character faced the full rigor of the law's wrath and was promptly jailed for similar act of 'tax evasion'.The State is sinuous and serpentine in its carefully selective deprivations of people's liberty.Other than that no other high profile case springs to mind although Phillip Green's heroic avoidance of tax has to be commended alongside Vodafone's.To be fair however, there are perhaps many more such fine examples except that I do not have further details myself.
Next time I will discuss how such abovementioned examples could be utilised into a more general and systematic mass resistance programme against the bully looter State.

Reflections On The Capitalist Revolution
Without wanting to be a Pain or a Burk it has to be said, a strong coffee does spur the Capitalist revolutionary impulse. All things become possible for the duration. Not that I am a hot head.I understand the Marxist thing about the long march through the institutions. But last night I was a thinking. If someone is mugging you and demanding your worldy goods (not that there are any other sort I might add) do your really have to launch into a philosophical discussion with him about the evil of plunder and the instigation of force against another to apropriate his or her wealth,or do you just hit him over the head with a blunt instrument? This is where I depart some what from the Randian Objectivists.I ask them, if the State is mugging you every day and looting your property do we really have to engage in a generation long philosophical re education programme to convince everyone that looting whether it be done by individuals or the State against others is immoral and evil,or do we just resist the State in a massive civil 'disobedience' non-compliance campaign? Seems a no-brainer to me.Of course where we depart is only regarding the means to achieving freedom, not the end ie freedom itself.

In Remembrance Of What Exactly?
We are invited today to observe two minutes silence for Armitice or something,I only vaguely know what.Millions died in the First World War and I still can't figure out why or what for.In the Second World War we defeated German Socialism and embraced British Socialism. Then we surrendered to the Germans and French by joining the EU.What did all thoise people die for - the EU? Does putting a poppy on our lapels and not speaking for two minutes make up for this genocide which was all for nothing? If there are martians on other planets looking down on us maybe there is an explanation as to why they have never deigned to land on planet earth :too much insanity.

Phoney Blair. An Epic Journey In Tedium
I bought the box set of Blair autobiography with high expectations. Five minutes into the 13 cd yet abridged My Journey I was exhausted and fatigued with the cliche bound pedestrian tedium of his shallow substanceless triteness. How on earth was anyone ever taken in by this phoney? I am going to grit my teeth and try again.I must solve this conundrum.Watch this space...

Conspiracy Afoot
With the liberation of the media to free market competition via internet and cable satelite has come the phenomenon of chanels devoted entirely and exlusively to conspiracy theories. Now to the undiscerning the power of the conspiracy theory is very seductive. It holds out the alluring prospect of revealing the secrets of the universe, giving power to the powerless and providing an explanation of everything in a neat hermetically sealed closed system of knowledge. It empowers the disenfranchised and marginalised with a intoxicating feeling of righteous indignation, self validation and serves up a rationalisation of their anger at the deal they have been given by uncaring impersonal cruel world. It tends to attract those on the margins of society who hold a grudge against the system which in their minds has left them out in the cold and has not recognised their trute worth and consigned them to subsistence on a low wage menial existence where their inherent virtues have been ignored and not recognised.
The spiritual has been sidelined for crude materialism,so the narrative continues, and New Age here steps into the breach with its alternative medicine and philosophy which is another strand of the Conspiracy theorists which I will not go into now sufficing at this point to allude to it as another strand in the rich and variegated tapestry of conspiracy theorists. The multifarious conspiracies be they wildy contradictory and divergent share a common denominator namely the existence of a sinister cabal of elitists in their hideaways plotting and planning the global takekover and enslavement of the masses in a dark conspiracy to rob the people of their birthright and liberty. A bewildering cascade and melange of disconnected arbitrary facts and figures are put to service to illustrate the fiendish plots of these putative Masters of the Universe and no scenario however preposterous is excluded from the dogs dinner of conspiracies be it 9\11,Apollo landings ('supposed'!) ad nauseam.Of course a degree of plausibilty is required to make the conspiracy theory medicine go down so interpolated with the more wild and outlandish crackerbarrel UFO storiies and elaborate concoctions there is a smattering and verisimiltude of truth,eg,the idea that the push to a One World order either through the EU or UN has a genuine internal logic to it.There are those be they Al Gore with his climate change propaganda (which the Conspiracy theorists funnily enough oppose) who do want to enslave us with their Big Government solutions.Herin lies the bait for the unwary for by inserting some truths into their narrative the conspiracy theorists manage to ensnare some genuinely enquiring minds into embracing the theories lock stock and barrel and we end up with the absurd scenario described to me by a friend who when challenging the ridiculous theories embraced by an associate was met with the asinine retort:'why wouldn't David Icke be telling the truth'? (As well go into a lunatic asylum and attempt to convince the inmates that they are not really Napoleon!)And here we come to the issue of what happens when the conspiracy theorisits are challenged. They invariable become defensive and abusive to their detractors. We have been brainwashed by the media,we are too stupid to see what is going on, television has robbed us of our critical faculties, we are not part of the elite initiated who know what is going on,we are basically dupes of 'the system'.It becomes clear that one is confronting the belief system that is every bit as immune to logic and reason as the most primitive hysterical hidebound religious zealot and bigot.Unbeleivers are treated to an admixture of ad hominem abuse pity and contempt in equal measure.
There is a political and ideological base to the conspiracy theorists agendas that becomes discernible fairly early on into any examination of their programmes and broadcasts albeit allowing for some notable and exceptions to the general rule but these are by their very nature unrepresentative and marginal and so can be dismissed as they go against the general trend which can only be categorised as pro Left and anti Capitalist.(A good - or bad example of this is Max Keiser on RT although I am really intending to concentrate predominantly here on TV chanels such as Edge Media and PSTV so will perhaps return to Keiser later on).to be cont

Who Are The real Tory EU Traitors?
Eurosceptics are to blame for providing cover for the mad europhiles who run the Conservative party. The skeptics perform the good cop to the philes bad cop and Conservative voters fall for it every time.Tory voters should direct their ire towards the Redwood and Cash cadres for allowing the party to get away with the scam for so long. They furnished it with a moral sanction and as such are ultimately morally responsible for leading us along the primrose path to destruction.Without the figleaf of skeptism provided by the Redwoods the tory EU scam would have been exposed a long time ago.

Religion and the Left: Ugly Bedfellows
The St Paul debacle shows as I have said previously how religion and its secular equivalent Collectivism share the common philosophical roots of altruism. The Left and the Church are in ideological lockstep and the absurdist theatre they have indulged in in the last few weeks illustrates this. The BBC has treated this incident from the start as occupiers good,Church bad but in reality they are both on the same side of evil.No one has pointed out that the occupiers are immoral scumbags using force aggression and intimidation to trespass on church property notwithstnding the Church's appeasement and craven capitulation to their tyranical bullying antics. This occupation is standard Leftist intimidation behaviour but it is presented by the BBC as highly moral and principled. In the morally inverted world of the BBC evil is the highest good and is to be defended and championed in a brazen disregard for truth and objective reporting.Using force to occupy property that does not belong to them the only recourse possible and the moral imperative is for the occupiers to be removed by force.Because the Church loves to appease evil this it will not do hence its moral depravity and ethical delinquency. It stands condemned as an evil institution beyond all hope, cast adrift in a moral inverted universe where good is bad and bad is good.It hypocriticaly has economic ties with the City but then decries the very institution by which it is able to flourish. The Church is a corrupt morally bankrupt institution and as such is the perfect location for the evil Leftist rabble who have gathered on its purlieus. They truly do deserve one another.A plague on both their rotten houses.

Monarchy,Benign Tyranny
You have to pinch yourself really. We still have a monarchy in the 21st century.Selling it off would probably sort the National debt. Why did this country re install the monarchy? It set us up for Socialism. The royal welfare spongers have set a terrible example to the lower orders in encouraging parasitism.Monarchy is incompatible with Capitalism.A republic is the only answer. The congential idiots who comprise this motely crew of royal freeloaders makes us the mockery of the world.A deranged mystic lunatic prince with mesianic eco delusions waits in the wings to assume the role of king.Let us sit on the grass and talk of the madness of kings and monarchy.

Welfare Straits
The global economic crisis will not bring about the collapse of Capitalism as there are no Capitalist countries today. But it will bring about the end of Welfare States as put simply, there is no money left.An end to welfare, the dream of Capitalists now looks close to becoming a reality.Welfare is approaching its 1989 moment.Countries across the world are etiolating their State power, cutting back on government programmes and as much as some of the inhabitants march and protest and 'occupy' this trend will not be reversed.Global max-out of State credit cards can mean only one thing,a contraction of State powers,a moving towards defacto Capitalism. The only alternative is a shift to totalitarian government and most people have no appetite for that, even lovers of State largesse entitlement programmes.
Advocates of unregulated laissez faire capitalism will be in the ascendancy if they seize the day and push home their advantage by delineating the parameters of State power, arguing for individual rights, phasing out of government programmes, across the board privatisations of all extant State bodies that do not fall under the essential role of the State such as armed forces, police and law courts. The economic arguments however will not suffice without a moral argument for Capitalism as people are not swayed by implacable logic so much as by moral ethical arguments and it is in this field that so called defenders of Capitalism have been so woefully and pitifully inadequate not to say delinquent.Once again it is the Conservatives who have been largely responsible for damning capitalism with faint praise, apologising for it,attempting to sneak in capitalism lite through the back door, watering down and emasculating it with hamstringing regulations and qualifications,in effect sabotaging it by contaminating and corrupting it with mixed economy policies thus discrediting the very thing they claim to advocate ie Capitalism. This then gives ammunition to the anti Capitalists who say it does not work.As most people have no idea what capitalism actually is -and believe absurdly that it means welfare and taxation - this is a successful gambit by capitalism's enemies.A little basic eduacation would explain that Capitalism is not about regulation, taxation, government picking winners, red tape, bureaucracy, quangoes and that all such things are the antithesis of Capitalism. But this alone will not suffice as it is in the realm of morality and ethics that as I have said, Capitalism needs to be explained and defended.Without this moral ethical philosophical foundation there will be no sea change in the public mind regarding capitalism.
Testimony to the truth that it is not economics that move and inform people's judgements but ethics and morality is the continued popularity in spite of all the economic arguments against it of Statism, welfare and Socialism.People want to believe that they are on the side of the angels, the good guys, the little man and Socialism has been so good at convincing people that it holds the moral high ground that it has managed to carry the day in the face of all the evidence to the contrary that it only delivers poverty crime, moral squalor, dependency, depradation, unemployment over-regulated markets, brain drain, global welfare dependency as peoples flood in from all over the world to batten on to the handout society funded by British taxpayers. In the face of all these self evidencies about the consequences of Socialism Conservatives are weak, vacillating, timorous and apologetic and effectively silent about Capitalism's virtues. In this moral vacuum the Socialists and Statists step in have carte blanche, occupying the moral highground entirely by default.
So we can see that it is in the realm of morality that Capitalism needs to be defended. Why it is the moral system. That will be my next post -unless something interrupts it first asnd I will return in due course to this central issue.
