Keep the English language and the education system, the trains and the state administrative structures, civil service, cricket, trade routes and infrastructure etc etc etc (what did the British Empire ever do for us?!) but I think we can dispense with the colonial anti homosexual laws! Er yes! 3 Cheers for India!
But in a world where certain people apparently think it is amusing to make jokes about putting homosexuals into gas chambers ( I kid you not, someone on a social media site overheard it from a member of staff at work) we clearly do not have too much room for complacency. At least one hope it was a joke!?
Maybe the Gay Pride brigade are, like Israel a necessary evil. When bigotry and persecution goes away they will too.
But a sea change is taking place. If Ireland can make the radical changes to it's moral universe and break free from it's dark priest ridden past there is hope for all countries and India's move this week is a welcome step in that direction. Perhaps the UK can do it's bit to put pressure on some of the shadowy corrupt and monstrous, anti gay Islamic Arabic states it for some bizarre, irrational and short term reason regards as its allies?
